Praying without ceasing. .. When I was a child in Christ. .. the first time I heard these words I was trying to imagine how such a thing was possible. .. How could one pray without ceasing. .. I mean how could it be possible to stay in constant prayer with all the distractions in our daily lives. . work. .. school. .. children. .. life. ..
How could one even begin to attempt this.
1 Thessalonians 5: 16 -17 says "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances. .. for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Paul is saying here that Believers should never stop praying.
But how can we spend our time on our knees all day when life is going on. .. we can't . .. but it is possible to have the attitude of prayer at all times. I actually realized this without even realizing what I was doing. .. I was faced with a very difficult decision at work one day and I was not sure what direction to go. .. and right there at that moment I began to pray internally as I asked God to help me with the problem I was facing. ..and as I did I began to realize that there was peace in my spirit as a result of calling out to God in prayer. ..
The problem was not solved instantly at that very moment. .. but God's peace was immediately covering the situation. .. I felt a peace as if God was saying to me. .. I hear you James. .. and it was at that moment I realize that by acknowledging my dependence on God. .. I could have this peace at all times. .. and why would I not want this peace at all times. ...
And so now the scripture was being revealed to me. .. It starts out by saying "Rejoice always". .. no matter the situation. .. if we give it to God. .. we can rejoice. .. always. .. and then the scripture says pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. ..It does not matter what the situation is. .. if we have given it to God in prayer, we can rejoice because the God I serve has never failed. ..
And then this scripture closes out in such a power manner. .. and says for this is the Will of God in Jesus for you. .. we should never grow tired of praying because our prayer is our persistence expression of Faith to God that He will answer our prayer. .. The Word of God says in Hebrews 11:6. .. But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. ..
Diligently seeking Him for me means praying without ceasing. .. acknowledging to God that I am totally dependent upon Him. .. and my continued prayers is the testimony of my faith that I believe God. ..
And so I rejoice because not matter the situation. .. if I am depending on The Self Existent One, The Self Sufficient One. .. The Lord God Almighty who can do anything but fail ... my prayer is not only non stop throughout the day. ... it beomes a Praise and Worship to a Sovereign God. .. a prayer that becomes a natural part of my being. .. it becomes the very air I breath. .. without it . .. I would die. .. without Christ I am dead. .. and so I rejoice always, and I pray without ceasing and no matter the situation and I gives thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for me. .. and you as well. ..
