When God calls you to a particular task, it is possible that it could be something that you are reluctant to do. Just as Jonah was reluctant to deliver the word that God called him to deliver. .. Sometimes, you might feel reluctant to deliver a message from God. .. sometimes we are reluctant to say what God is telling us to say. .. I am a witness. ..when we don't do it God's way, we will not be successful. Especially if the message is one you would not consider to be God news. So, just like Jonah. .. you might try to run and attempt to avoid the call or the task. .. If you don't know the story of Jonah. .. read the book of Jonah. .. it consists of only four chapters. .. you will find that one. .. you can't run from God, and two, God's Word will always come to past. You see. .. God's Will is accomplished even through a reluctant participant.
Isaiah 55:10-11 states . ..For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but waters the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater. .. So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. When reading this word, one should clearly see that running is useless when God speaks. No matter the word. .. good or bad. .. you should embrace the call because it is not you anyway that is going to do what God is telling you to say. .. it is God. .. and if it makes someone angry or upset. .. they are not angry or upset with you. .. those feelings are directed toward God.
So when God calls you to a task. .. I want you to think about the exchange God had with Ezekiel in chapter 33. God appoints Ezekiel as a Watchman unto the House of Israel, and with that charge came great responsibility. Ezekiel beginning at chapter seven states:
"So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a Watchman unto the House of Israel; therefore thou shall hear the word from my mouth and warn them for me. .. and this is the word from the Lord. "..
"When I say to the wicked, Oh wicked man, you shall surely die and You do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall surely die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at Your hand. Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way. ..he shall die in his iniquity, but You have delivered Your soul."
Even the righteous are held to account by our Lord. .. In verse 12 God tells Ezekiel, Therefore You, O son of man, say to the children of your people; "The righteousness of the righteous man shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; as for the wickedness of the wicked, he not fall because of it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; nor shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins. When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die." Then in verse twenty the Lord says. .. "O House of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his own ways.
This is the word of the Lord to the Watchman. ..so why would anyone try to run, or even not do what the Lord has called them to do. .. in either situation, it is a lose lose proposition. . Answer your call, do what the Lord has called you to do. It is your purpose in Christ. To do otherwise is to face the judgement for your disobedience.
My prayer to the reader is that God will give you the strength to do what He has called you to do, and give you the passion for your purpose in Christ. Amen.
